In this basic example, we are going to use the 3D model on figure 1\u00a0.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"displayed aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/shiplab.hials.org\/media\/making_a_technical_drawing_in_ NX\/1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"60%\" \/><br \/>\nFigure 1 &#8211; 3D model.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Firstly, we need to start the <i>Drafting<\/i> application. With the 3D model opened at NX, go to <i>File<\/i> &gt; <i>Drafting. <\/i>This will disables the <i>Modelling<\/i> application and start the <i>Drafting<\/i> application.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"displayed aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/shiplab.hials.org\/media\/making_a_technical_drawing_in_ NX\/2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"60%\" \/><br \/>\nFigure 2\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Starting the Drafting application.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Once the <i>Drafting<\/i> application is launched, the <i>Sheet<\/i> dialogue window (figure 3) will appear. Here, it is possible to choose between pre-defined templates for the paper or even create a new one. After the sheet is selected the Populate Title Block dialogue window (figure 4) will appear. Here it is possible to define some drawing main identification fields, located at the lower-right corner of the paper.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"displayed aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/shiplab.hials.org\/media\/making_a_technical_drawing_in_ NX\/3.png\" alt=\"\" height=\"60%\" \/><br \/>\nFigure 3 &#8211;\u00a0Sheet Dialogue window.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"displayed aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/shiplab.hials.org\/media\/making_a_technical_drawing_in_ NX\/4.png\" alt=\"\" height=\"60%\" \/><br \/>\nFigure 4 &#8211;\u00a0Populate Title Block dialogue window.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After the paper was completely defined, the 2D drawing can be added. Using the button <i>View Creation Wizard <\/i>(figure 5), it is possible to add a desired view to the drawing paper.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"displayed aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/shiplab.hials.org\/media\/making_a_technical_drawing_in_ NX\/5.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"60%\" \/><br \/>\nFigure 5\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Adding the desired view.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Over the tab <i>Part<\/i> (figure 6), it is possible to select the part which you want to have the 2D drawing. This can be done through the button <i>Section View<\/i>, as shown on figure 11.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"displayed aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/shiplab.hials.org\/media\/making_a_technical_drawing_in_ NX\/11.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"60%\" \/><br \/>\nFigure 11 &#8211; Section View tool.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After the <i>Section View<\/i> dialogue windows pop up, the placed view should be selected. So, an hinge line (in orange on figure 12) which define the cross section to be projected should be positioned at the desired place over the placed view. Special attention is needed regarding the black arrows on the ends of the hinge line. They define the direction in which you are looking the projected section. If desired, the direction can be flipped using the <i>Hinge Line <\/i>option on the <i>Section View <\/i>dialogue windows.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"displayed aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/shiplab.hials.org\/media\/making_a_technical_drawing_in_ NX\/12.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"60%\" \/><br \/>\nFigure 12 &#8211;\u00a0Defining the plane of view.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After the section is selected, it can be positioned over the paper sheet, as shown on figure 13.
